Your Child Away From Dangerous Behaviour
Many of us have learnt to parent by default, dealing with the challenges
of raising children to the best of our ability. But even this seems to
be inadequate at times and the world outside the home seems to be throwing
everything we don’t want for our children, at their feet, ready
to trip them up at every opportunity.
Parenting with ASSURANCE is a Focus on the Family program designed to
help parents tackle the very real issue of Substance Abuse (including
alcohol) by using 12 “tools of parenting” as a foundation
for steering our children away from high risk behaviour.
The course, Parenting with ASSURANCE is written in a simple, easy to read/study
format. Our research shows that all dangerous behaviours are addressed
in one way or another, by the same basic parenting techniques and the
aim of the book/course is to focus the attention of parents towards these
Biblically based parenting techniques.
Many of the lessons of the book are based on Focus on the Family curricula
such as How to Drug Proof Your Kids, Heritage Builders and No Apologies,
the truth about life, love and sex. This book however, builds up a firm
foundation built on Parenting with ASSURANCE, before dealing with the
chapters on specific high risk behaviours such as substance abuse.
There are many activities that result in the book being very practical
and suitable for group and seminar work. Focus on the Family present seminars
on this course for Churches, School teachers, School parents and Corporates,
in 1 to 6 hour formats.
